Who's to blame for repeated flooding in Forest Park?

A standing-room-only crowd of about 150 emotional residents filled council chambers Monday night, nearly all flood victims seeking explanations and help after waking up Saturday morning to water, sewage or both in their basements.

It's official. "For Lease" signs are up at 7300 Madison, the time-worn space that since 1988 has been home to Circle Theatre, the award-winning village-born arts company that's come to be known in Chicago as "theater at its best."

Marani is claiming his civil rights were violated by actions the village's building department took as he was developing the 1920s building at the southeast corner of Circle and Madison into residential and commercial condominiums.

In both a text message and a phone call that went out to residents' phone numbers Sunday afternoon, Forest Parkers are being asked to put flood-damaged goods in their alleys.
Saturday standstill
As residents of every neighborhood in Forest Park woke to face flooding Saturday morning, so did people hoping to use the Eisenhower Expressway and the Blue Line. Such standing water on the Eisenhower meant the expressway was temporarily shut.

There's larceny in the heart of us all; sometimes double larceny. Park District Director Jim Sarno was one of the celebrants at the Forest Park Annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament.

Everything has a shelf life, a wise friend often reminds me, whether it's a Twinkie, a nectarine, or a relationship. Circle Theatre has been opening hundreds of shows in Forest Park since the mid-1980s. But that period is now suddenly, rather abruptly, over.

We're getting tired of "acts of God." How about you? On the other hand, we don't see a better explanation for this summer of flooding. Forest Park, Forest Parkers and their basements got walloped again last weekend - second time in a month - when astounding amounts of rain fell in a very short time.
